About Mercedes
Mercedes is a freelance filmmaker & photographer based in Portland, Maine with experience editing both documentary and commercial projects. Mercedes studied anthropology and sociology at Umass Amherst. Her studies centered around perspective shifting; stepping back and questioning all of the things in society that we take for granted.
Her first documentary editing project, Peace, Love & Zoo, won Best Documentary at Emerge Film Festival in Auburn Maine. The film was also selected at the Sanford International Film Festival, ITVFest, Reel Recovery Film Festival, Around Film Festival, and the Impact Doc Awards. Her second feature length documentary, Brothers, won the Vermont PBS Award for Best Documentary in 2019. A short film about Maine Huts & Trails which Mercedes shot and edited also won first place in the Maine Outdoor Film Festival’s amateur film contest.
She spent 3 years as lead editor at Maine Life Media which airs several different shows airing weekly on News Center Maine.
She is the Creative Editor at p3 Maine and the Co-Owner of Verterra Films.
